The Role of Angiographic Examinations in Modern Ophthalmic Diagnosis.

This publication is an extremely valuable source of knowledge for everyone interested in the diagnosis of retinal and choroidal diseases. The author, Prof. Dr. Habil. Of Medical Sciences Maciej Gawęcki presents angiographic studies as a key tool in the analysis of ophthalmic pathologies.

The book thoroughly examines the evolution of the role and significance of fluorescein angiography in the context of the dynamic development of diagnostic methods. Professor Gawęcki thoroughly analyzes how the introduction of optical coherence tomography (OCT) – a non-invasive examination that in some cases surpasses fluorescein angiography in assessing individual retinal layers – has influenced the modern approach to diagnostics.

Description

The studies presented in the handbook are currently one of the basic tools for the analysis of retinal and choroidal pathologies. The role and significance of fluorescein angiography have changed in recent years due to the introduction of optical coherence tomography, which is a non-invasive examination and in some conditions surpasses fluorescein angiography, especially in the assessment of individual retinal layers. Fluorescein angiography, however, remains a fundamental diagnostic tool in ophthalmology for assessing vascular retinal diseases, especially before planned laser therapy. Indocyanine angiography is intended as a supplement to angiographic diagnostics of the retina and choroid. The handbook presents the main applications of indocyanine angiography in the diagnosis of ocular diseases. This handbook was designed as a compendium of practical knowledge on the angiographic diagnosis of ophthalmic diseases. It is intended to be an atlas with brief information on selected conditions and the main principles for interpreting angiographic images related to these entities. The author believes that the skill of interpreting angiographic images is best acquired by viewing them, hence the very large number of images in the handbook and only essential descriptive information. The purpose of the handbook is to teach physicians the basic principles of interpreting angiographic images and to lay the groundwork for independent work in this field. The handbook cannot show all cases encountered in ophthalmology, but it sets out specific guidelines for managing individual groups of ophthalmic diseases.

An additional asset of the book is a rich set of illustrations and tables and an extensive bibliography.
